Wright Throws No-Hitter; #19 Bucks Sweep Series w/ ASU-Newport

(April 29, 2025) Newport, Arkansas - After a 4-2 record last week, the Bucks remained at #19 in the NJCAA DII Softball Rankings on Monday. This week is the end of the regular season with 6 sames remaining. The first doubleheader was this afternoon on the road at ASU-Newport. Earlier this season, the ladies took both games at home against the Aviators.

The results were the same this afternoon at George Kell Park in Newport. The Bucks took down the Aviators in both games to sweep the season series: 3-2 and 8-0 (5-innings). The Bucks now have a 39-12 overall record and are 23-5 in region play. 

Addisyn Wright (Buffalo Valley, OK) got the nod in the second game and threw a complete game no-hitter, as the Bucks won by run-rule, 8-0. Wright pitched 5.0 innings, giving up 0 runs on 0 hits and struck out 3. 

Offensively, the ladies pounded out 18 hits this afternoon to score their 11 runs. The Bucks struggled to push across runs in the first game, but the offense came alive early in the second. Mallory Cheek (Lumberton, TX) had a 3 for 3 day to start the day with a solo home run, her sixth of the season. Jaliyah Simmons (Muskogee, OK) joined her with 3 hits in the doubleheader that included a triple and a RBI. 

Emily Stout (Vilonia, AR) and Brenli Baker (Enid, OK) both drove in a pair of runs. Baker had a pair of hits, including a double, on the afternoon, while Stout did her damage on one swing of the bat in the first game. Hayden White (Red Oak, OK) and the birthday girl Olivia Tefft (Frisco, TX) both recorded a pair of hits and drove in a run.

White (8-2) pitched a complete game to start the day. In 7.0 innings, she gave up 2 unearned runs on 4 hits, striking out 1. 

The ladies will now host a pair of home doubleheaders to finish the regular season. The first is on Thursday against National Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm at Cummings-Cecil Field.
